En aquest sentit, cal assenyalar que Catalunya lidera els estudis en torn la recerca biomèdica dels beneficis saludables de la dieta mediterrània. Un exemple és que el consum regular de l'oli d'oliva redueix en un 33% les possibilitats de contraure greus malalties com el càncer d'estómac. De fet, així ho afirma la revista mèdica American Journal que publica uns estudis on manifesta aquests beneficis. Tanmateix, l'oli d'oliva verge aporta beneficis en la prevenció de les malalties cardiovasculars i altres càncers com el de mama i el de colon. A més, Geli ha explicat que "són molts altres els beneficis de l'oli d'oliva" ja que "Catalunya al igual que Japó i Suècia, l'esperança de vida és de les més altes del món". Segons la consellera, "amb el consum de l'oli d'oliva verge "ajuda a envellir d'una manera més saludable i obre unes importants expectatives de negoci al voltant de la cosmètica".
Per la seua banda, l'alcalde de les Borges, Miquel A. Estradé, ha afirmat que cal "sumar esforços per difondre la cultura de l'oli i fer de la comarca de les Garrigues un referent de qualitat que identifica a tot un territori". L'alcalde també ha comentat que "és l'hora de revaloritzar el producte tot seguint l'impuls del Canal Segarra-Garrigues que incrementarà la producció d'olives a la comarca". En aquest sentit, Estradé ha comentat que "fer un esforç comú al voltant de la innovació de la mà de les universitats i els centres de recerca científica, juntament amb la producció i el disseny del producte ens faran guanyar els mercats".
